An Ethical Dog Breeder
Before kids, there was a dog. Our first golden retriever joined the family as we anticipated the arrival of our first child. From the time Jake (dog) and Aaron (son) stepped into our world, there has never been a moment without the excitement that children and goldens bring to a family. We live on 12 hilly acres just a few miles from Kentucky Lake. Our family has enjoyed boating, camping and fishing this area for the past 50 years. We enjoy sitting on our front porch and reading a good book, watching wildlife or visiting with friends. All these activities have been made richer by the presence of a 'friend that sticks close than a brother', a golden retriever. More than 10 goldens have called this hill home, and us, their family. Various shades of gold and a variety of personalities combine to bring unlimited joy (and occasional mischief) to the people who find their way to our porch and our home.
You may recognize "Hat Creek" from the lonesome Dove Book series. Michael (husband) and Aaron (son) love the nostalgia and adventure found in this western setting. Our most recent English Cream Goldens share the names of some of the characters in 'Lonesome Dove'. It is a most sincere form of flattery for the author, Larry McMurtry. (we hope)
There is a lot of work that goes into establishing a reputable breeding program. We have always been very intentional in the dogs we choose to bring into our home. We are committed to finding the truest pedigree, the finest temperament, and the healthiest dogs for our family. We breed goldens for the joy of seeing other children and families experience what our family has enjoyed for years. We breed our females a limited number of times, and seek to produce the best puppy possible. We'd love to have you join the Hat Creek family of golden retriever owners.
